Ever thought of becoming a volunteer?
Do you wish to work at the front line of housing?
Do you need to gain experience of working with vulnerable people?
Ever thought of giving something back?
Do you see yourself as someone who enjoys a challenge and wants to make a difference to some-one else's life but is unsure of how to go about it?
The April Centre has been providing services to homeless people and the vulnerably housed in Colchester since 1993. We currently offer a wide range of support and services but desperately need more volunteers to continue with the work we do.
At the April Centre you will experience a wide range of people with many different problems and needs and with the right training and support you will soon be part of a team helping them get back on track.
Once you are fully trained you may choose to specialise. We have a range of opportunities within the April Centre, which include Housing adviser, Debt worker, Housing worker, Welfare worker, Prison housing adviser and Outreach worker.
All we ask is that you are able to offer a regular commitment for as long as you are able and that you are able to attend any training required.

Tin shaking
A traditional form of fundraising, however still very effective – If you have an hour to spare on a Saturday, come and join us at an array of venues around the local area. Every penny counts.
Support and outreach
The April Centre operates an advice service for our clients and the support they require can range from working through local authority forms to ordering new carpet or furnishings for their new homes. Or simply being a friendly face to talk to – Training, support and guidance is given and you would not be asked to do anything you were uncomfortable with.
Skills and services
The April Centre works closely with landlords to enable our clients to move into their new homes – sometimes the properties concerned are made available with repairs and renovation required and The April Centre undertakes to carry out the work required. Therefore any services or materials in relation to renovation and repair are gratefully received.
